JID just dropped DiCaprio 2, which is already one of the most famous rap albums of the year. Mac Miller was a friend of JID who had contributed to the album and, during his performance of "Skrawberries" on Tonight's show yesterday (with BJ The Chicago Kid and Thundercat), JID paid tribute to the late rapper.
Before starting the performance, the shot was centered on Miller's tattoo on Thundercat's arm, and JID said, "It's a dedication to a close friend, the Thundercat and myself. I just want to say to everyone: Check your good friends.
JID had previously discussed Miller's impact on the album, saying he had more time for the album when he did not hurry to finish it before going on tour with Miller as he was supposed to:
"I had more time to go back and say," All right. I do not have to rush because we're not going on tour right now, "you know what I'm saying? I have time to think about it. I'm not going to really go back and change like too many lyrics but I touched them, gave them some inflections, made the project better kind of shit, added the Method Man folder and finished shit with Drama.
He mentioned five or six songs from the project, do you know what I'm saying? Before he's gone. Like "Scrawberry", that's why this shit looks like this. Produced by [J.] Cole, Masego played on it, Ron Gilmore and Elite played on it, the BJ Chicago kid sang and Mac Miller arranged it.
Watch JID, BJ The Chicago Kid and Thundercat present "Skrawberries" above.
