President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo inaugurated Wednesday an information and communication technology (ICT) center endowed with 2.2 million GH in honor of Dr. Joseph Boakye Danquah in Kyebi, in Eastern region.
The imposing building – "J.B Dankwa Memorial Center" – partially sponsored by Huawei Technologies (Ghana), is expected to provide ICT education and training to the residents of Akyem Abuakwa.
Speaking at the inauguration of Memorial Center, President Akufo-Addo said that although JB Danquah had never exercised executive authority in the state, his influence on the history of Ghana had been truly amazing and was felt in all areas of national life – constitutional, cultural and Ghanaian. economic, educational, intellectual, moral, political and religious.
The President stated that it was not improbable to say that J. B. Danquah's memory would continue, at least, to live as long as Ghana would live.
"He gave our country his name, Ghana, after years of research on the history and traditions of the inhabitants of the Gold Coast. He fought, first of all, for the union of the geographical entity that we now call Ghana, and then, he fought for Ghana to be established as a free and independent state.
Finally, he fought to defend the freedoms of the Ghanaian people, insisting on a system of democratic governance, governed by law, as the best form of government for an independent Ghana. It was during this last phenomenal work that this Ghanaian colossus literally gave his life in a cruel, non-judgmental imprisonment in Nsawam Prison. "
JB Danquah, described as the dean of Ghanaian politics, was an educator, freedom advocate, historian, journalist, jurist, philosopher, playwright, poet, scholar, a statesman and a theologian.
President Akufo-Addo said that several key institutions of the country owe their creation directly to his work – the Cocoa Marketing Board; the University of Ghana, Legon; Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi; the Bank of Ghana; Ghana Commercial Bank and Accra Sports Stadium, among others.
President Akufo-Addo thanked the Chinese government for its continued solidarity with the government and the nation, as well as Chinese society Huawei, for the exceptional gesture in the memory and honor of Dr. J.B. Danquah.
Joseph Boakye Danquah was a member of the legendary "Big Six", alongside Emmanuel Obetsebi Lamptey, Edward Akufo-Addo, Ebenezer Ako Adjei, William Ofori-Atta and Kwame Nkrumah, recognized rightly like the founding fathers of Ghana.
Chinese Ambbadador HE Wang Shiting, who was present for the occasion, said that China is ready to partner with Ghana to develop and move it beyond the borders of China. ;help.
