Energy Minister Peter Amewu said the West Africa Gas Pipeline Reversal Project (WAGP) would be completed in June 2019.

The Reverse Flow project aims to bring dense gas from the Aboadze region to the Tema, Asogli and Car Power gas plants whenever WAPCo supply has been interrupted.
The 150-kilometer project was designed by the previous administration, led by Mahama, as a catalyst for finding a solution to the intermittent disruption of gas supply through the WAPCo plant; responsible for various factors, including terrorist attacks by terrorists.
Currently, gas from the west coast oil fields is ending in the Aboadze thermal enclave in the western region.
This means that gas from oil and gas fields off Cape Three Points in the western region is not currently available for use by the thermal power plants located in Tema; Hence the need to build an inverted gas pipeline between Aboadze and Tema.
The project is already five months late but will be delayed by one year.
WAGP supplies Benin, Togo and Ghana with natural gas from the Escravos region of Nigeria in the Niger Delta region.
In an interview with Evans Mensah on PM Express, Amewu said that although the workaround is over, some technical difficulties have blocked the Reverse Flow project.
"The project was delayed, but the contractor was brought to the ministry to explain the reasons for the delay. One reason was the hose specifications. They arrived in Nigeria and a hose was approved, but at the time of use, they realized that the product did not meet specifications. So we rejected this pipe and so they had to look for an alternative that extended the period.
"Another reason was that the pylons and the shipping would take a while, but we are trying to reduce that time, so these are the reasons that have extended the completion period. We have put the completion period in June of next year, "he added.
The minister, however, apologized for the intermittent power cuts that are happening across the country.
He badured that the ministry was addressing the issue and denied that it was due to financial hardship, as claimed by the minority.
"As a government and energy minister, I want to apologize to Ghanaians, especially those who have experienced this period of intermittent power. As a minister, I am responsible and I take the blame.
This has nothing to do with a financial or planning system, but a mere coincidence of events that occurred as a result of unexpected contingencies, "Amewu added.
But Emmanuel Buah, the Minister of Administration headed by Mahama, under whose authority the project was launched, is disappointed with the government and Mr. Amewu for not completing the project in time .
He is puzzled by the fact that the new administration has made no effort to carry out the project, even after all the work has been done before the left-wing power in 2016.
"We are where we are because the government and the Minister of Energy have not really taken the issue of ensuring that the reverse flow was a critical element. The minister should have taken full responsibility for the delay, "Buah said.
He added that the consequences of the lack of reverse flow on the country 's electricity supply are enormous and hopes that the country will not be plunged into another electricity crisis in its absence.
