BOULEVARD (NEWS 8) – Three people were killed and eight others injured late this afternoon when a truck pursued by Border Patrol officers crashed on Interstate 8 of Boulevard , according to the authorities.
The fatal accident occurred on the west side of the highway near Crestwood Road shortly before 4:30 pm, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A witness told authorities that one of the vehicles involved was traveling at a speed above 100 mph just before the accident, the CHP announced.
Three people were killed, three were seriously injured and five were minor injuries, according to Cal Fire, who said most, if not all, survivors had been taken to the hospital.
According to information provided by the CHP, the truck was being chased by border patrol agents and crashed after possibly hitting a rush of tape.
Two of the victims were in the truck cab and the rest were in bed, reported the station.
The wreck left the two lanes of the western highway blocked in the area in the early evening, according to Cal Fire.
