Nzimande said his department was concerned about accidents involving buses and taxis. He added that officials had noted that many of the drivers involved in these accidents came from neighboring countries.
The minister also promised to put a brake on the license centers involved in the fraud.
According to Nzimande, the number of deaths of pedestrians and cyclists decreased by 2%, while the number of driver deaths remained at 27%.
He also said that there was a 7% decrease in road deaths in the second half of the holiday season.
However, if we consider the situation as a whole, the number of deaths has increased.
Nzimande says that taxis are a concern.
"Thirty-six percent of people who died as a result of road accidents were pbadengers. This represents an increase of 2% from the 34% recorded last year. This reflects, among other things, high-occupancy vehicles that have been involved in fatal accidents "
He added that driving while intoxicated was also one of the main causes of the high number of road deaths.
