Business stakeholders have called on Tunisian investors to take advantage of Ghana's stable socio-economic and competitive environment by involving their Ghanaian counterparts in the creation of multinational corporations that can benefit the more than 1.2 billion African consumers.

At an economic forum organized in Accra on Tuesday, January 15, government officials, manufacturers, exporters, importers and traders asked their Tunisian counterparts to join them in taking advantage of the many programs put in place by the government to industrialize the country.

The forum, organized by the Tunisia-Africa Business Council and the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), aimed to strengthen bilateral trade and investment relations between Ghana and Tunisia.

Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah presented a number of programs launched by the government to turn the economy into a commodity-based industry.

Ghana-Tunisia relationship

GNCCI Chief Executive Mark Badu-Aboagye said the country has enjoyed good relations with Tunisia for 60 years, which has been beneficial for the achievement of national development strategies and sustainable economic growth. .

"Today's meeting is essential for strengthening bilateral trade and economic relations between the two countries," he said.

According to him, Ghana was an ideal destination for doing business. Currently, it is one of the fastest emerging market economies and renowned for its political and economic stability.

"It is ranked as the best place to do business in the West Africa subregion according to the World Bank's Doing Business 2019 report and has the B rating from Standards and Poor (S & P) Global.

"The government is also committed to pursuing pro-business policies and programs to achieve economic and industrial transformation of the economy and to bring Ghana beyond aid."

He is continually looking for cooperation and partnership to achieve this vision, "he said.

Bilateral exchange

According to the International Trade Center (ITC) in 2015 and 2016, Ghana's trade surplus with Tunisia was USD 1.7 million and USD 0.8 million respectively.

However, in 2017, Ghana's total imports from Tunisia amounted to US $ 18.5 million, while its exports to Tunisia amounted to US $ 15.1 million, a trade deficit of US $ 3.4 million. USD
