The Cabinet approved a project to expand the water supply network for the population of Yendi in the northern region, endowed with $ 30 million.

Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, who reported it at a press conference in Accra on Thursday, said the project would be financed by a credit facility agreement between the government. from Ghana and the Indian Exim Bank.
He added that the project, which should be completed in 30 months, will draw raw water from the Daka River and serve approximately 133,000 people in Yendi Municipality and surrounding towns and villages.
He added that the project had become necessary because the current water treatment facility, built in 1961, could no longer meet the demands of the growing population.
"Due to the demographic and economic growth of the Yendi Municipality, it has become necessary to expand the existing water supply system to meet the demands of the cities and beneficiary communities," he said.
Mr Nkrumah said the expansion of the water supply system was also in line with the government's policy to ensure that by 2030 all people living in Ghana have access to safe water. drinking water.
"The government is delighted with this project because the municipality of Yendi contributes in particular to the agricultural sector by the production of large-scale food and commercial crops and the presence of deposits of iron ore in the catchment area. The supply of drinking water would therefore be a driving force to increase production and increase mining potential.
"We expect, as a government, that the peaceful air now blowing in Yendi after the success of the road map will help speed up the implementation of this project for the citizens of the region," he said. -he declares.
