Sylvester Mensah says NDC "top hierarchy works against" bid for party leadership

Sylvester Mensah, an aspiring flag bearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said the party's top hierarchy was working against his attempt to bring him to the 2020 general election.

According to him, party leaders gave former president John Mahama a grip on the primary.

"It's an open secret that the party hierarchy is working against some party members, including myself," TV3 said on Wednesday, saying they were "supporting another candidate".

Justifying his claim, he stated that Mahama had the opportunity, at the party convention last year, to speak at the opening and closing sessions on the platform on which he stated that former president had indirectly launched his electoral song.

Again, he alleged that some party personalities had organized delegates at a central point in the various regions to approve Mahama's application form, while other aspirants were left to furrow all constituencies in order to 39, get signatures.

"When it came to filling in the applications, while other aspirants were going around the constituencies looking for delegates [our nomination form] we had a situation where a fiat [was issued]; In most areas, one institution had invited delegates to a central location to present themselves as a single individual, former president John Dramani Mahama, "he said.

Such acts, he described as "quite unequal and very unfair".

Meanwhile, following rumors of alleged poor election practices in the December 2018 referendum on the creation of six regions, Mensah advised the Electoral Commission to exercise caution and take steps to prevent multiple voting, especially in the general elections of 2020.
