The actor Siddhanth Kapoor has made a place in the industry with his supporting roles in such films as Once Upon A Time in Mumbai, Haseena Parker and Paltan. Now, the actor will be seen in Bombairiya. The actor is talking about the film, his father Shakti Kapoor and the transformation of the film industry into Hindi.
Here are the excerpts:
Q. What about Bombairiya that pleased you?
The script was very attractive. It's so chaotic and based on real events. I was the first to be selected for the film, and then a lot of great actors came on board. So it was perfect. Being from Mumbai, everything was so relatable and I think even viewers will end up in one or the other character or in a given situation. It is very raw, fast and reflects the times of today.
Q. We have mainly seen you in serious roles. Whether it's last week or Paltan. Will we see a new avatar in Bombairiya?
It's a character I have not done yet and want to do for so long. It's a different attempt. It's a chaotic comedy, and it's something that I look forward to.
Q. It is interesting to see how your sister Shraddha and you did not follow your father's path. He started with negative characters, then played an incredible comic role and became popular in both genres. Was it a conscious decision?
It was not a plan. I do not have a plan, honestly. I only want good content and strong characters. I want to work with a few directors.
I do not necessarily see what I do but the content of the script. For me, I am attracted to difficult characters. Whether it's to become the gangster of Once Upon A Time or a soldier in Paltan, my characters have also had several layers. They are gray, white, black and many shades. So, I do not like to stay in one genre, but propose something different.
My father is really an inspiration. He shot more than 800 movies, a number difficult to touch. It's a living legend. We learned so much from him automatically. It's fun and inspiring to be around him.
Q. The public has begun to accept stories inspired by real events. Is that why you chose scripts somewhere rooted?
I said that I am a film fan who makes sense. That said, I love masala movies. If a commercial movie has a little bit of reality, it's a win-win situation, if you know what I mean. Times have changed now. Content has become king too because of the work we see in the digital space. That said, I do not think the theatrical experience of visualization goes away. There will be an audience for theaters and web series.
Q. Is Bombairiya released at the right time?
Oh yes. Did you watch Andhadhun? Do you think it would have worked 10 years back? No right? This is a sign that times have changed and that people are developing different and real concepts.
Q. What's next for you?
I just finished filming a series called Bhaukaal. It also features Mohit Raina.
