The 24-year-old is now an undisputed member of the Reds' first team and extended his stay until June 2024 with a new deal.

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp paid tribute to Andy Robertson's commitment to his club after the defender signed a new contract with Anfield.

Robertson, aged 24, left Hull City to join Liverpool with a £ 8 million budget in the summer of 2017, and has imposed himself as Klopp's first-choice left-back towards the end of his first season.

The Scottish international has since stepped up in training the Reds, thus helping his team qualify for the Champions League final and imposing himself as one of the best back-sided of the English selection.

He became the last Liverpool player to make a long-term commitment to Klopp's Anfield project after Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Joe Gomez.

Robertson extended his contract until June 2024; and Klopp could not be happier with the news.

"I think of all the contract renewals I've been involved in, this one was done in record time," Klopp said on Liverpool's official website.

"It's fair to say that Robbo did not hesitate a second when we talked about extending his stay in our club longer.

"I remember our return to summer 2017, I talked a lot about" her story, her background "and my love for her.I thought it indicated the type of person and player that it would be for us.He exceeded these expectations.

"He may be from Glasgow, but everything about him is Liverpool."

Klopp added that although Robertson had to wait for a chance to shine, he has more than paid back his confidence since he was first-teamed.

"It was fantastic to see him grow, develop and improve. It was perhaps not the easiest start, as we are lucky to have another fantastic left-back at Alberto Moreno, "said the manager.

"He had to be patient – he had to be ready when his luck came up and his progress since then is an example for any player who joins us.

"Everyone knows his personality, on and off the field, but we may be guilty of sometimes neglecting his quality. Ask those who play against him – whether it's a game day or a training session – and they talk about his technical and tactical skills as well as his character and heart.

"Our fans fell in love with him, he fell in love with them. And he and his young and amazing family are both at home in Liverpool.

"It's fantastic, it will be their home longer."
