The General Manager of the Ghana Airport Company was removed from his position as part of another round of non-departmental reshuffles.
John Dekyem Attafuah was invited to go on leave, a political euphemism in Ghana for his dismissal. According to sources from Myjoyonline.com, it should be rebadigned.
The board of directors of the airport company, which manages all airports and airfields, is headed by Oboshie Sai-Coffie and has not been disbanded, as reported by some media.
Mr. Dekyem Attafuah has been a medical doctor for 22 months since his appointment in March 2017.
The abolition of Attafuah marks a wave of withdrawals and dismissals within the Akufo-Addo government.
The source explained that the decision to reshuffle cabinet was made during a government retreat at Peduase Lodge in December 2018.
The non-ministerial reshuffle is the second by the Akufo-Addo government. In June 2018, the government announced the dismissal of four heads of state institutions.
The changes took place in the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority, the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, the Bulk Oil Storage and Shipping Company, and the Korle-Bu University Hospital.
