Kennedy Agyapong sued by Ivy Heward Mills for defamation
Ivy Heward Mills, wife of the late Abouakwa North MP, JB Danqua-Adu, sued the deputy of Assin Central and eight other people for defamation, demanding 50 million GH ¢.
The lawsuit came a few months after the outspoken deputy made comments that the widow of the deceased had connections with private investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
Mr. Agyapong made the comment before Anas' first investigator's piece 12, which revealed supposedly corrupt relations within the Ghana Football Federation.
The widow, however, was offended by the allegations and decided to drag the legislator to court for what she considers defamatory.
Kencity Media, Kennedy Agyapong, Group Limited, Multimedia Group, the BEI Group, Joy Daddy Media, F-Giant Broadcasting Limited, Apex Media and Ghana Soccernet are linked to the lawsuit.
She claims damages amounting to 50 million GH ¢ to the MP and the other defendants.
In addition to the money, Ivy also wants the plaintiffs to apologize for the defamatory statements approved by the court. They should "be published with the same visibility as defamatory statements and publications on the various sites or stations on which they were published and in the Daily Graphic and Ghanaian Times".
On February 9, 2016, the MP of Abuakwa North was stabbed to death at his home in Shiashe, Accra.
The late MP suffered an untimely death when Daniel Asiedu went to his home to steal him and during a fight, allegedly stabbed the MP several times.
He has been charged with murder while his accomplice Vincent Boso is charged with murder.
The two men were released by a high court in Accra after the Attorney General had requested that the previous trial be suspended. However, the two men were arrested again and new charges were laid against them.
A high court in Accra refused to release them on bail, claiming that the police were still investigating the case.
The state has filed an indictment on both suspects and is ready to incarcerate them
