After taking stock of the fierce battle to offer more beef, more bacon, more meat in fast food sandwiches, we expect to see the chain debut, a hamburger that is actually than a whole cow between two rolls. (You heard it here first.) Burger King, who yesterday launched its Big King XL sandwiches in participating establishments across the country, paved the way for beef supremacy.
The hamburger consists of two patties totaling more than half a pound of meat, American cheese, onions, pickles, lettuce and a "special savory sauce" on toasted sesame bread. In a press release, Burger King directly targets the McDonald's Big Mac. His Big King XL has 175 percent more beef than this iconic burger. (The Big King XL patties weigh 8.8 ounces in total, while the McDonald's patties Big Mac weigh 3.2 ounces in total, by BK.)
But wait! It's misleading on the part of BK. Because true, Big King XL is bigger, but only compared to McDonald's standard Big Mac. The best badogue of the Golden Arches should be the Big Big Mac, which uses McDonald's quarter-pound beef patties. At this point, you can argue that the McDonald's Big Big Mac is actually bigger, because BK's avoids the average roll (called the club, in terms of burger), instead of just stacking the two patties beef on each other. Can a girl have a towel here? (It should be noted that Burger King has already sold a Big Mac rival or knock-off called Big King, of a size comparable to that of McDonald's, although it is no longer on the menu.)
Pushing further the angle of rivalry – because that's all we expect from restaurant brands these days – BK says it will accept expired MacCoins from its customers as a way to pay for Big King XLs. (McDonald's distributed MacCoins last year on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Big Mac, but have since expired.) That the new BK hamburger is good, we're a little fed up of how fast food brands have constantly monitored them other. We understand, you are competitors, but the shtick has taken its course.
