The 23-year-old has been in good form this season and is United's top scorer with nine goals in all competitions.

United's former boss, Jose Mourinho, reportedly was ready to part with Martial last summer – but then stated that he wanted the attacker to stay after a nice session.

And United's hierarchy has always been determined to reach an agreement on a long-term contract with a player they made of the world's most expensive teenager when he was signed to Monaco in 2015.

Martial continued to flourish under the command of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, marking the first match of the new manager in Cardiff – and also starting in subsequent victories over Bournemouth, Newcastle and Tottenham.
