BRUNSWICK, Maine – Sen. Angus King of Maine said he had resumed treatment for prostate cancer, but that radiation therapy would not affect his work.
In 2015, the legislature removed all of its prostate and surrounding tissues. His office said in a statement on Friday that he was no longer suffering from cancer and that he was undergoing regular checks to monitor any sign of recurrence. The 74-year-old decided to undergo localized radiation therapy after his doctors saw a slight rise in his PSA levels, which may be a sign of cancer.
He began treatment on January 14 and will complete it in mid-March at the George Washington Hospital in Washington, D.C.
King said his doctors had told him that he would stay healthy throughout his tenure and beyond. King was re-elected for a second six-year term in November.
