Jurgen Klopp warns Liverpool against Crystal Palace threat

Jurgen Klopp asked Liverpool to learn from the shocking victory of Crystal Palace in Manchester City to prevent their title ambitions from being derailed.

Liverpool will try to restore a seven-point lead at the top against a team that has been a problem recently; Palace was the last team to beat Klopp's team at home in April 2017, while his first loss against Anfield as Liverpool manager came against them in November 2015.

Palace blew hot and cold this season but no results stand out more than their remarkable 3-2 win at Etihad Stadium on Dec. 22 – a win that actually gave Liverpool momentum in the title race.

Many would presume that Klopp would spend time dissecting the video of the match, but the German said he was focusing more on other matches that Roy Hodgson's team had played – and he knew they could inflict similar damage.

When asked if he had watched Palace's match against City this week, Klopp replied: "No. I saw the game in particular. The percentage of possession was 70 or 80 for City. It's huge. They scored a nice goal. Hope that Andros Townsend will not start again!

"In counterattacks, in pieces, it's clear. They are good. This is how a game can occur, but there are other games. We must also see them play football. There was not too much in this game. That's why I watched three different types of games and at least two games on the outside.

Aside from a few injuries, the season was relatively calm for Liverpool and additional evidence was provided Thursday when defender Andrew Robertson became the sixth member of the team to sign a long-term contract.

The majority of Liverpool's contracts now go up in 2023 or 2024; Klopp's terms lasted until June 2022, but he stressed that he was not planning to examine his terms. Nor would he be in favor of discussions at this point of the season.
