The Zimbabwean government has ordered a complete shutdown of Internet services to disrupt communication between protesters protesting the rising price of gasoline and the rising cost of living.

The country's largest mobile network operator, Econet, told subscribers on Friday that the government had issued another order to which it had to comply.
"The previous directives are already the subject of a pending application to the High Court.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by government acts that are beyond our reasonable control, "said the operator.
However, it followed a power failure of more than 24 hours between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Social media platforms, such as WhatsApp, Twitter and Facebook, remained closed after the government felt the protesters were exchanging information to continue their activities.
However, Internet users could still communicate on WhatsApp and on another platform called Telegram after installing VPN on their smartphone.
This may have prompted the government to order the second Internet outage.
