Randy Lawrence stated that his collection of 450 recorded comics from Batman and Detective had been stolen from an air-conditioned double-lock storage unit located in Boca Raton.
Now, Lawrence hopes that officials can catch the joker who took the comics. But for the moment, the flight is an enigma.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is investigating the robbery that took place between November 28 and January 8, WFOR reported. The storage facility staff was watching surveillance videos, reported the TV channel.
The robbery had all the elements of a cartoon Batman plot. A wire was left on the ceiling of the storage unit. Lawrence thinks that the villain has entered by the roof, reported the Sun-Sentinel. The locks were not broken and boxes were moved into the unit, the newspaper reported.
Lawrence gave investigators a list of missing Batman and detective cartoons and posted a list of certification numbers and genealogy names so that comic books could be found.
Lawrence went on social media, urging other collectors to watch closely anyone trying to sell stolen comics, the newspaper reported. According to Lawrence, the comics are registered with the Certified Guaranty Company, a comic book ranking service.
"I … really need you all to be aware and keep your eyes open," Lawrence wrote online, according to Sun-Sentinel. "They will probably be offered to some of you sooner rather than later.
"For me, it's a first and at this level, it's devastating. This collection was my nest egg, and I had worked so hard and if I managed so long to bademble it that it was taken away in this way left me a very bad way. "
