PanARMENIAN.Net – Many factors can increase Alzheimer risk, including age, family history and genetic makeup.
Some health problems, such as cardiovascular disease or diabetes, can also affect the risk of dementia because they affect the blood vessels.
New research indicates that psychological factors may also influence risk. Psychological distress, in particular, may increase the risk of developing dementia, suggests the new study, reports Medical News Today.
Researchers led by Sabrina Islamoska, PhD student at the Department of Public Health of the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, then undertook to investigate the possibility of a link between vital depletion and disease d & # 39; Alzheimer's.
Life depletion describes a "mental state of psychological distress" that manifests as irritability, fatigue and a feeling of demoralization.
As the researchers explain, life depletion can be a reaction to "insoluble problems" in life, especially when the person has been exposed to stressors for an extended period of time. Thus, vital depletion can be considered a sign of psychological distress.
Previous studies have shown that life depletion can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, premature death and obesity, among other conditions.
Islamoska and his colleagues published their findings in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease.
