The actor Windsor Davies, known for his role as sergeant major in the television series It Is not Half Hot Mum, died at the age of 88 years.
His family said he died peacefully on Thursday, when his daughter said that her parents had left a large family "who will remember them with love, laughter, and gratitude," according to the BBC.
Davies was born in Nant-y-Moel, Bridgend, and worked as a miner and teacher before becoming an actor. He also dominated the pop charts in 1975 with his sitcom colleague, Don Estelle.
He had retired to France with his wife Eluned, with whom he had been married 62 years before his death in September 2018. They had five children.
