Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah told the Ghana Journalists Association's (GJA) leadership on Friday that the government would convene a stakeholder roundtable soon to address concerns expressed by the media. .
GJA leaders paid a courtesy call on the Minister as part of the Association's 70th anniversary activities.
The Minister took the opportunity to address a number of issues, including the need to control false news, opinion journalism and the use of social media in news production.
According to the minister, misinformation continues to be a major challenge for the media space that must be tackled before losing control.
He suggested that the government would also tackle the problem of public opinion journalism, which he said would separate the opinion from the facts.
"Another thing we hope to confront at this stage is opinion journalism," he said.
"So we need to start looking a little bit more at the journalism of opinion and the type of headings that we all want to put in place so that the consumer knows at all times that this is a fact, that it's This is a guided opinion, "he explained.
Regarding social media, he noted that some media houses do not have a clear policy on the use of social media, which he believes should be examined to prevent people from using it to broadcast. false information.
"Where you do not have a clear policy even for mainstream media on the use of social media, some of us tend to think that's my personal opinion I can put it on my Facebook wall so it does not matter. "
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah reiterated the need to involve stakeholders on the issues, stressing that it was "contemporary challenges ahead."
