Ducati CEO confirms Italian company makes electric motorcycle

While major motorcycle manufacturers around the world are facing a new era of electric vehicles, Ducati could be the next to deploy an electric motorcycle. This was stated by the CEO of the company, which has just confirmed the commitment of Ducati in the development of an electric motorcycle production.

An electric Ducati arrives

Although Ducati does not currently have standard electric motorcycles, the famous Italian motorcycle manufacturer is no stranger to electric vehicles.

Ducati has produced several electric bikes in partnership with other companies. The company has also worked with the Milan Polytechnic School of Design to develop a Ducati electric concept, the Ducati Zero.

The company's managing director, Claudio Domenicali, has even been spotted on a Ducati Hypermotard with electric conversion and Zero FX powertrain.

But now, Domenicali dispels any doubt about Ducati's intentions. Speaking at a Motostudent event in Spain, the CEO of Ducati told the crowd:

"The future is electric, we are not far from starting mbad production."

This is not the first time that Ducati has expressed its intention to develop an electric motorcycle. In 2017, Edouard Lotthé, General Manager of Ducati Europe West, had revealed that Ducati had motorcycle and electric scooter projects. However, Lotthé said the 2021 model year might look the longest.

Domenicali's remarks are now the most convincing confirmation that we will see an electric Ducati. And this time, the confirmation comes directly from the top.

Electric motorcycles: a very dense market

Ducati may well be one of the first major motorcycle manufacturers to get into VE, but they will not be alone.

Another Italian company, Energica, has been manufacturing electric sport bikes for years, with a number of high performance models at over 150 mph.

In the US, Harley Davidson's Electric LiveWire has just started pre-sales, although the price has been set at $ 29,799.

Other electric motorcycles already on the market offer even more affordable sensations. The new Zero 2019 model range has recently benefited from increased power, speed and range. In addition, the California-based electric motorcycle manufacturer unveiled its all-new model next month.

And believe it or not, they are not the only electric motorcycle company in California to unveil a new electric motorcycle. Lightning Motorcycles has just teased their next strike. The strike promises impressive specifications, including a top speed of 150 km / h, a range of 150 km, a fast load of 35 minutes continuously and starts at just $ 12,998.

Urban motorcycles have also increased, offering even lower prices for low-speed and self-driving bikes.

 Super Soco TC Max

The next Super SOCO TC Max will offer a top speed of 100 km / h and a range of 68 miles for just $ 5,100. Fly Free offers three different models with speeds ranging from 40 to 50 mph and prices in the range of $ 4,500.

The most affordable electric bike at the moment is perhaps the CSC City Slicker, whose top speed is around 45 mph but will only cost you $ 2,500.

Thus, although Ducati is not yet in competition with incumbents such as Honda, Yamaha and other motorcycles, they will certainly not be present in a very open market either. However, thanks to their brand heritage and their famous team of designers, Ducati could offer an incomparable electric motorcycle.
