An investigation was launched following the deaths of two people who died of a fungal infection caused by pigeon droppings at a Glasgow hospital.
The infection is caused by the inhalation of Cryptococcus fungus, mainly present in soils and pigeon droppings.
The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGCC) has opened an investigation into the death of a patient at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, but the Health Council said that the second affected patient – an elderly person – had died as a result. an unrelated incident.

A nonpublic area of the hospital, away from the ward, was identified as a likely source and the excrement was removed. Control measures have been put in place.
The NHSGCC said that a small number of adult patients and vulnerable children were receiving drugs to prevent a potential infection.
The Health Committee has also installed portable HEPA filtration units in specific areas as a precautionary measure.
Teresa Inkster, NHSGCC Senior Consultant for Infection Control, said, "Cryptococci live in the environment around the world. It rarely causes an infection in humans.
"People can become infected after breathing microscopic fungi, although most people who are exposed to it never get sick."

During the investigation, the sealant was implicated in some shower rooms.
The repairs are in progress and the maintenance team is trying to solve the problem as quickly as possible.
As an added precaution, a specific group of patients was transferred to the hospital because of his clinical diagnosis and ongoing treatment, said the health commission.
Ms. Inkster added, "There have been no other cases since the control measures were put in place.
"In the meantime, we continue to monitor the quality of the air and these results are being badyzed.
"Our priority is to provide patients and staff with a safe environment."

Le professeur Hugh Pennington, de l'Université d'Aberdeen, a déclaré à la BBC qu'il était surpris d'apprendre que l'infection se produisait chez les patients hospitalisés. Il a déclaré: «C'est très inhabituel au Royaume-Uni.
"Il est badez courant dans d'autres régions du monde, en particulier dans les régions tropicales et aux États-Unis et dans des pays comme celui-ci, où ils ont plus de problèmes avec ce type de champignon."
Le professeur Pennington a averti que les personnes ayant un système immunitaire faible sont les plus exposées.
Il a déclaré: «Quand il pénètre dans la circulation sanguine, beaucoup de gens ont des infections relativement simples et s’installent dans les poumons, mais le gros problème est qu’ils peuvent causer la méningite et, comme nous le savons, la méningite peut être une infection très grave . "
