TOKYO (Reuters) – A French government delegation has announced in Tokyo that it will seek to integrate Renault (RENA.PA) and Nissan (7201.T), probably under the umbrella of a single holding company, the Nikkei reported on Sunday.
The delegation, which included Renault's French-appointed Renault director Martin Vial, also said it would nominate Nissan's next president, according to the report. Nissan was not immediately available to comment.
The former president of Nissan, Carlos Ghosn, arrested and detained in Tokyo since November 19, has been indicted in Japan for under-reporting salary for eight years until March 2018 and for having transferred temporarily losses related to personal investments in Nissan during the global financial crisis. . Ghosn denied all the accusations.
The French government has asked Renault to hold a meeting of its board of directors in the coming days to replace Ghosn.
