Jose Mourinho has identified Liverpool's transfer work under Jurgen Klopp as the reason they are competing for the Premier League title.
The former boss of Manchester United was looking for a boost for his former employees for what he saw as a lack of support in the transfer market before being offered the boot after his 3-1 loss to Anfield last month.
Despite six consecutive victories in the Premier League under interim director Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United is still 16 points behind leader Liverpool.

And Mourinho considers that the long-term planning of Pep Guardiola, Klopp and Manchester City, is essential to face them at the top.
"Speaking hypothetically as a manager, you sometimes do the first phase, then the second phase," said Mourinho.
"Sometimes, when you think you're building a solid future, sometimes you're not doing anything because you're away.
"You have for example the case of Manchester City. During the first season (Pep), Guardiola was not a champion and it was really difficult.

"And in the second season, Pep made good decisions, but big decisions that were taken care of."
Mourinho, speaking for beIN Sports, added: "You see him today with Liverpool. How many of these players were in Liverpool before the arrival of Jurgen (Klopp)?
"Not Alisson. No Van Dijk. No Robertson. No Salah. No mane. No Fabinho. No Keita. It's an in-depth job.
