The drama on civil rights starring Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen beat "Roma," "A star is born", "The favorite", "Black Panther", "BlackkKlansman", "Crazy Rich Asians", "A quiet place ". "Vice" and "Bohemian Rhapsody", who won the first prize at the Globes.
"Green Book" tells the unlikely friendship between black piano virtuoso Don Shirley and his driver, Tony Lip, during a tour of concerts in the Deep South, an isolated land, in 1962.
"I do not need rewards," said producer-director Peter Farrelly, according to Variety's industry magazine. "It's as if Warren Buffett was winning the lottery, I'm damn grateful."
The win was won despite recent controversies surrounding the film, including the resurgence of a 2015 anti-Muslim tweet by screenwriter Nick Vallelonga (the son of the late Tony Lip), for which he apologized profusely last week.
Farrelly himself was in hot water earlier this month because of several media reports from 1998 chronicling his habit of showing his bads as a joke.
Of the other notable categories, the best animated film was awarded to "Spider-Man: In the Spider-Verse", "The Americans" won the TV Drama Award and "The Wonderful Ms. Maisel" won the price of the humorous series.
The PGA is a more understated affair than the Golden Globes, but it is considered a more accurate indicator for the Oscars, with their best awards aligned in 20 of its 29 years.
This includes "The Shape of Water" last year, although in 2017, the best PGA film was won by "The Land", while "Moonlight" won the Oscars.
Oscar nominations will be announced on January 22nd and the ceremony itself on February 24th.
