The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) reaffirmed that no split live animal could be moved to the foot-and-mouth disease area in Vhembe district.
This follows the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the districts of Vhembe and Capricorn in Limpopo.
"No live, split-carcbad animals are permitted to enter, through and outside the area. The forces of order have been strengthened and all the displaced animals will be confiscated by the police and destroyed, "the department said.
The department said that after a meeting between DAFF Minister, Senzeni Zokwana and the industry, the technical team met on January 16 to exchange information and advice.
After agreeing on the terms of reference, the technical working team agreed to limit the area to be vaccinated to facilitate the long-term management of the disease, provided that this do not compromise efforts to control the disease.
The task force also agreed to increase the visibility of the police and provide food to affected villages to limit movement and interactions of animals on grazing sites.
"Two groups of teams started working in the area. Seventeen vaccination teams working in potentially infected areas are conducting inspections and vaccinations, and four inspection teams are working in the "clean" area to determine the scale of the epidemic. Four thousand and twenty-one animals in nine villages have already been vaccinated.
"To date, the disease has been confirmed in two villages. Following reports of clinical signs, three more villages are being followed, samples have been submitted to the laboratory and the results are expected early next week, "said the department.
The Limpopo Department of Agriculture has since provided food to the affected animal owners and letters have been sent to 20 trading partners and trade in processed products is starting to be made.
