The Nigerian army said on Sunday that its troops killed two Boko Haram insurgents as part of the ongoing mine clearance operation in the Kajeri community, in the area of Mafa's local government in Borno.
Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, deputy director of the army's public relations operation LAFIYA DOLE, said in a statement to Maiduguri that the troops had also recovered ammunition and rescued two elderly women from insurgent captivity.

Nwachukwu said the insurgents were killed Saturday by troops of the Task Force's 112th Battalion during a mine clearance operation in the Zaza area, Kajeri-Maye and the villages of Kajeri-Maiburem at Mafa.

According to Nwachukwu, the troops also reportedly recovered a hand grenada, two Danish Ganes, a locally produced short-barreled rifle and two mobile phones.
Soldiers also recovered an AK-47 rifle magazine, 17 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition, 27 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition and 22 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO ammunition.

The army spokesman said the troops were pursuing the insurgents who had escaped.
He added that they will continue demining operations to eliminate the remains of terrorists still hiding in the area.
