STEAMBOAT SPRINGS – Colorado is one of the states with high influenza activity according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Hospitalization rates were highest in children aged 4 and under. Seasonal flu shots are recommended for people 6 months and older.

The flu season usually extends until the spring. If a person gets sick, influenza vaccination can help. People at increased risk for flu complications include young children, the elderly and people with certain health problems.

Flu symptoms may include fever, fatigue, muscle or body aches, coughing, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, and headaches. People with these symptoms should consult a health care provider. People who fall ill must stay home after work or school until at least 24 hours after the end of the fever. Avoid contracting or spreading the flu by washing your hands frequently and covering your cough.

Influenza vaccines are available by appointment at Northwest Colorado Health, 940 Central Park Drive, Suite 101. A low-cost vaccine is available for uninsured individuals or whose coverage does not cover influenza vaccines. Same-day appointments are often available. Call 970-879-1632.
