Head of Sports Direct, Mike Ashley, wants to rescue HMV from the administration after the fall of the music store this month.

The mogul has been talking to chain industry suppliers over the past two weeks in hopes of acquiring this business.

The owner of Newcastle United hopes to save the last UK national music retailer, after HMV Retail had to appoint directors for the second time in six years.

Ashley's latest offer for the high street came after he took over Evans Cycles and House of Fraser.

Sources told Sky News that he was "serious" about adding HMV to the list, but it is unclear whether the offer was made by the company. Intermediate of Sports Direct International or another company.

Mr. Ashley is also a shareholder of Game Digital and could merge it with the music channel if it comes under his control. It is understood that Game does not attempt to buy HMV outside the administration.

The retail chain (its Westfield branch in Shepherds Bush) has entered the administration for the second time in six years

Mike Ashley's HMV offer was announced after he also bought Evans Cycles (pictured, the Vauxhall Bridge Road, London branch).

KPMG declined to comment on the identity of the people who bid for HMV.

A handful of potential buyers submitted offers to KPMG before January 15th.
