BEIJING, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) – China has confirmed a new outbreak of African swine fever in northwestern China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

On a local farm in Yongning County, 26 pigs were confirmed infected with the virus and 13 died at 11 pm. Saturday, announced Sunday the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, quoting a report from the Chinese Center for Animal Disease Control.

A team was dispatched to the area to give advice and local authorities launched an emergency response to isolate and eliminate affected pigs and disinfect the site.

The ministry added that the transportation of all hogs and related products outside or inside the blocking area is prohibited.

African swine fever is thought to infect only pigs, and no human or other species has been infected to date.

China reported its first case in August in the northeastern province of Liaoning in August. Subsequent outbreaks have been reported in several other provincial areas.
