An Irish woman who received a false negative on a smear taken from the CervicalCheck screening program has died.

The 221+ CervicalCheck support group died Saturday at the church of Orla, at the age of 55 years.

She was one of 221 women who had been found to have poorly read their smear tests after an audit of previous CervicalCheck results, the HSE smear testing service.

The 221+ CervicalCheck Support Group was established in July 2018 as a result of the controversy.

& # 39; Inspiring & # 39;

In a statement, the group described Ms. Church as "brave, strong and inspiring".

"We have just learned with great sadness the pbading of Orla Church, a member of the 221+ CervicalCheck Patient Support Group," they said Saturday.

"We offer our most sincere condolences to all his family and friends in this very difficult and sad time.

"Many of us have met and experienced Orla in the last few months and she was so wonderfully courageous, strong and inspiring.

"She has campaigned tirelessly on behalf of all those affected by the CervicalCheck debacle and we are and will continue to thank her for this outstanding work.

"All members of the CervicalCheck patient support group, over 221 years old, will be thinking about the Orla family in the coming days and will be available to help them in any way possible."

Mediation

According to RTÉ News, Ms. Church had accepted mediation talks regarding lawsuits she had filed against the Health Service Executive and Quest Diagnostics, one of the labs where tests had been sent.

Mrs. Church is survived by her mother and father, five brothers and sisters and 12 nieces and nephews.

She must rest on Tuesday.

Tributes were paid to Ms. Church on social media.

So sad to learn that Orla Church has pbaded away … it takes a special courage to keep fighting for others during the last few months of life and how tragic it is that her cancer does not happen. has not been treated for three long years because of two incorrect smear test results

Another woman died for incompetence and no one has reported to her yet. Shame on this sham government. My heart goes to Orla Church's family, rest in peace. #CervicalCheckScandal
