Jordan 1-1 Vietnam (2-4 PSO)
Rashid Al-Maktoum Stadium, Dubai
The Vietnamese tournament that is remembered continued as they booked their eighth place thanks to a fierce triumph against Jordan. It was however the West Asian side that dominated the first period. They had already threatened the players before Baha'a Abdulrahman made a hard-hitting free kick at halftime to clinch the corner.
The Hangseo team came back refreshed and was quick to solve the problem after the break, when Nguyen Cong Phuong met Nguyen Trong Hoang's center to tie the game. Another hour of action did not allow either team to win the match. Bui Tien Dung left the crucial penalty in the bottom corner, as Vietnam survived an Asian Cup playoff match for the first time in its history.
Thailand 1-2 China PR
Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium, Al Ain
A second-half finish for China allowed Africans to return to the group of last eight places at the expense of a Thai team that was playing its first-ever Asian Cup playoff game since 1972. Thailand has carried the first blow to the mark after half an hour of match. a powerful pivot of Supachai Jaided allowed him to shoot the war elephants in front of him, but the persistence of Marcelo Lippi's team allowed him to avoid going home.
First, it was Xiao Zhi who, as a result of his powerful lead, managed to stabilize China at the deal with just over 20 minutes. But it only took four to find the big winner, largely thanks to a reckless defense of Chalermpong Kerdkaew. He knocked down Gao Lin in the area who dusted himself thoroughly and shot high up in the corner to get China through.
IR Iran 2-0 Oman
Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi
Everything could have been so different for Oman. After winning a penalty in one minute, they could have made a perfect start, but the sensational hitter in the breakout of Ali Beiranvand denied captain Ahmed Al Mahajiri. Iran did not waste this stroke of luck.
Alireza Jahanbakhsh took the advantage over the opposing team, before Ashkan Dejagah made the same mistake as his opposing counterpart, the skipper doubling his advantage on the spot before the break. Sardar Azmoun and Mehdi Taremi should have put the game to bed several times in the second half, but they did not have to pay for their heaviness as the first Asian team qualified for the quarterfinals, where they will face China .
