According to the World Health Organization, the signs and symptoms of swine flu are similar to those of infections caused by other strains of flu and may include:

  • Fever (but not always)
  • Chills
  • Cough
  • Irritated throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Red and watery eyes
  • aches
  • Headache
  • Tired
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea and vomiting

Symptoms develop about one to three days after exposure to the virus. The virus spreads when you inhale contaminated droplets or transfer the live virus from a contaminated surface to your eyes, nose, or mouth. You can not catch swine flu by eating pork.
