Sixth seeded Ukrainian Elina Svitolina qualifies for the quarterfinals of the Australian Open for the second year in a row, after defeating American Madison Keys in three sets.

Svitolina won the first set 6-2, before Keys won the second set 6-1 in just 23 minutes.

Despite the fact that the American beat 37 winners to 22 in the match – including 26 on his forehand – Svitolina was not denied and won the third set 6-1 decisive.

That puts an end to a bad set of results in major tournaments against the top 20 Ukrainian players, Svitolina losing its last six games against them.

Her previous win against one of the top 20 players goes back to the 2016 French Open, when she beat Ana Ivanovic.
