Ajith starrer Viswasam remains at the Indian and global box office, despite the competition of Rajinikanth's Petta.
Directed by Siva, the film is doing exceptionally well abroad. Bala tweeted: "#Viswasam continues to dominate #Malaysia Box ticketing during this weekend's #Thaipusam National Day. It is currently the only Tamil film in the Top 5 of the #GSC multiplexing channel. "
The film, meanwhile, could not surpbad Petta at the US box office, but continued to rack up a lot. Bala tweeted Monday morning: "#Viswasam broke the $ 250,000 mark at the #USA box office. Beginning Sunday, January 20 at 6 pm Pacific Standard Time. Gross total – $ 253,809 [₹ 1.81 Crs]"
The main actors of the film have Ajith and Nayanthara in the lead roles, as well as Kovai Sarala, Robo Shankar and Thambi Durai, among others, in important roles.
Viswasam impressed the audience, however, he received a mixed response from critics.
"Ajith is trying to use her charm to hide the fact that the movie has no new story to tell," according to the 2 star review from Indianexpress.com. But we have seen him again and again under the supervision of Siva. Despite his celebrity, he can only do a lot to sell a film full of redundant emotions and narrative techniques. Talented stars including Nayanthara, Thambi Durai, Robo Shankar and Kovai Sarala have all been wasted. "
