Afenifere, a Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, reacted to the remark of former President Olusegun Obasanjo that Nigeria was back at the time of the late General Sani Abacha under the administration of the President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking Sunday in his speech on the state of the nation that he labeled "Points of Concern and Action," said Obasanjo, just as in the US, he said. At the time of Abacha, state institutions are used to fight the presumed enemies of the head of state.
Reacting to Mr Obasanjo's statement, Yinka Odumakin, a spokeswoman for Afenifere, said Nigeria was in the grip of a civil dictatorship.
Mr. Odumakin explained the reasons for his badertion by stating that there had been an increase in disobedience to court orders and the absence of freedom speeches.
S addressing reporters, he said: "We are already under another Abacha regime. We witnessed the disobedience of court decisions, the decimation of any alleged opponent and the lack of freedom of speech.
"We saw the harbadment of people. What we are today is worse than Abacha, we knew what we had under Abacha. So we have a civilian dictatorship in Nigeria. "
