Bunkpurugu police said at around 7:45 pm on the fatal day that she had received a distress call from the Gbingbani district deputies' deputy, Dawuni Richard, that the two brothers were fighting over a little goat and a dog cooked with meat in Piabuni a sacrifice made both to their late father.

It is unclear how the fighting occurred and what the cause was, but police learned that Nwenle Takia had fired a knife and stabbed Bignani Takia several times, killing him instantly.
