Paul Merson has supported Liverpool to give Manchester City the Premier League title this season and expects Arsenal and Manchester United not to be in the top four.

The city of Pep Guardiola won the title last year, ambading more than 100 points and more than 100 goals while he was 19 points ahead of United, second.

City, however, has some work to do to defend its title. Liverpool lost just once this weekend to qualify with four points ahead of the pack.

London rivals Tottenham and Chelsea are third and fourth respectively, but Arsenal are not far behind after Saturday's impressive win over the Blues.

Manchester United have just three points in the top four after winning six consecutive matches under the acting director, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Merson told Sky Sports: "Arsenal will be defeated by a team in the last half of next week, probably by West Ham who was beaten last week and who was very poor.

"They will not have the consistency and I think Manchester United will be discovered – they can not continue to be so lucky, and I say lucky but they are mediocre at the back.

"The Tottenham games they have without Kane are winnable, so I do not see any problem with them, the first two will support and I think Chelsea will have.

'Man for man, they are much better than Arsenal, I think. Defensively, they will be more reliable before the end of the season.

"United have some good games to come, he has had good games, but I really believe that following the easy matches is a difficult game, what is it when the PSG puts them in contact?"

"I think he would have done a favor to Arsenal to get beaten the other day and they could have put all their eggs in the Europa League.

"Now they must also be part of the league, but I do not think they are good enough. They are hot and cold, you have to be consistent.

"One minute they are beaten by West Ham, but then they beat Chelsea well and the manager has to scratch his head.

"It's Arsenal, they have to play football in the Champions League, not Thursday night, I think Chelsea is going to win, but only, it's more of a three-point start if I'm honest."

Liverpool lost their first game of the season earlier this month but bounced back with victories over Brighton and Crystal Palace.

Palace scored three goals in Anfield's Saturday game, but the Reds still managed to keep all three points in the thriller by seven goals.

And Merson added, "I think Liverpool's result has been huge against Palace.

"It's a dangerous animal as they showed against Manchester City, it was a tough match, a tough fight and a goalkeeper foul, but you have to take advantage of your luck.

"The only concern would be to score three goals because they were solid.

"I'm going to settle for Liverpool, four points, that's a lot of points, I do not think they can even afford to draw a match yet.

"If you watch Man City, they will face Newcastle on the outside, they will be 10 behind the ball, so they will have Chelsea and Arsenal at home."
