Former Liverpool captain Graeme Souness believes his coach Jurgen Klopp's pragmatism will put an end to the 29-year-old title.

The Reds are currently leading Manchester City to four points at the top of the Premier League and, despite their 4-3 home error against Crystal Palace last weekend, they have the best defensive record of the first flight.

This is a departure from last season, when an exciting offensive approach has also earned them damaging goals.

This time, only 13 goals conceded in 23 games have improved Klopp team in pole position to win the title for the first time since 1990.

"In addition to being an excellent watch, Liverpool is a pretty pragmatic team," said Souness, who has won five club championship titles. liverpoolfc.com.

"They are a very strong team when they are not dominant, they are always able to win matches. This makes them a dangerous team.

"It makes you champions of the league when you can win games without being at your best.

"I feel that Liverpool will win this year because of the slightly pragmatic way they can sometimes play.

"I do not think they've been like that in the past, it was about winning a 3-0 match instead of 1-0.

"You would not want to trade their place against someone else, you would much rather have four points in advance.

"If you can, keep that four-point advantage and it's the first to really blink in the long run.

"It's not for them to lose, the road is long and City is a very good team.

"Just keep your nerves and treat the next game as the most important, do not look too far ahead."
