Bad jobs on our roads are ending now – Amoako Attah warns

Minister of Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Attah has severely warned contractors and road engineers to no longer have the habit of doing poor work when road construction contracts are granted.

An angry Amoako-Atta does not understand why roads built in other countries often have a lifespan of 10 to 15 years even before maintenance work is done, but the situation is different at the moment. Ghana where newly built roads can sometimes last 2 years before potholes develop.

S addressing Peace FM News on the sidelines of his first series "Meet-The-Press" under the auspices of the Ministry of Information on Tuesday, Hon. Amoako-Attah condemned the shameful practice of "his pete", namely "just throw the gravestones" that some road contractors engage in.

For him, entrepreneurs who engage in such reprehensible behavior have no respect for Ghanaians and do not have the fear of God in them either; warning that the Akufo-Addo government will no longer tolerate such "absurdity".

"I tell you that under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo and his government, this kind of nonsense will not happen again," he promised.

The Minister of Roads and Highways has revealed that a total of GH? 1.407 billion euros were disbursed for maintenance work, the activities of the beneficiary agencies and the repayment of the remaining portion due from the UBA loan at the end of 2018.

He further revealed that in 2019, approximately 11,100 km of national roads will be developed.

"… there will be additional periodic maintenance activities such as improving points, re-graveling, sealing, asphalt overlay as well as partial reconstruction work of 55 km of roads 500 km of feeder roads and 400 km of urban roads.

"Minor rehabilitation works are also expected on 50 km of national roads, 450 km of feeder roads and 60 km of urban roads with about 90 km of national roads and 30 km of urban roads under construction," he added.
