The tragedy struck the heart of Simon Thomas' family again, as his father-in-law died last night.
Sky's presenter kept things together for the sake of his little son Ethan after the death of his wife Gemma Thomas in November 2017.
But he spoke of his sorrow this morning after Ethan's grandfather died overnight of a disease similar to that of his daughter.
"Life may seem very cruel: Last night, Gemma's father's life ended when myeloma had a negative impact," Simon wrote on Instagram.
"It's devastating for Rebecca who, in 14 months, lost half of her family because of blood cancer and heartbreaking for Ethan who, just a month ago, said," Why is I continue to lose everything I love? "
"Now he lost the man with whom he had special relationships: the man he called" Pompa "."
Simon shared three beautiful family photos of Gemma's father – the first showing little Ethan kissing him on the cheek while smiling.
The second showed Ethan hugging his Pompa as the older fan lowered his eyes to his grandson.
The family tragedy was even more poignant given the death of Gemma as a result of myeloid leukemia, a cancer of myeloid blood cell line.
She was diagnosed only three days before she died, while she went to her doctor three times to complain of exhaustion.
Simon and Ethan were devastated and had to find a way to spend their first Christmas without their beloved Gemma.
Since then, both father and son have turned to professionals to deal with their grief and last month Simon seemed to have found love with Derrina Jebb, the daughter of a minister. of the church that had comforted Simon in the last few months.
A source told the Sun that his relationship with Derrina "was a shock" because Simon was not looking for another at the time.
They said that "as soon as he derrina the couple had a connection."
Derrina is the daughter of a respected Christian minister, who agrees well with Simon's religious beliefs.
She was apparently a "huge support for him" while he was crying for his late wife.
Speaking to social media, the Sky Sports presenter thanks fans for their support over the past year and has turned to the future.
"Just a little note to wish you a very merry Christmas and to thank you," he wrote while sharing a photo of him with his wife, his late son, dating back three years ago.
"Thanks to the many people here who have accompanied us throughout the year, who have continued to check to see how we are doing and who have continued to send words of encouragement. they have never met most of you, they have counted so much.
"The words can not describe how much Gemma and Ethan are missing from our lives, my heart is breaking day by day for my boy and the immutable truth that his mother will never come back," he continued.
"But despite his own pain, the light that shines from him has never faded, even in the most difficult times. He has dragged me through this year in a way that I can not see. he does not understand yet but that someday will understand. "
