According to a new study, the cost of insulin for a person with type 1 diabetes has almost doubled in the space of five years.
The Institute for Non-Profit Health Care Costs found that the annual cost for a typical patient has increased from $ 2,864 in 2012 to $ 5,705 in 2016, an increase of 99.2%.
According to Reuters, the figures represent the combined amounts paid by the patient and his insurance. Discounts paid later were not included.
The soaring cost of insulin has led many people to ration drugs to make ends meet, putting their lives at risk.
