Vehicle accident at the scene
Six people are in critical conditions following a spill of an oil product on the Tema-Accra highway last Tuesday, which caused multiple accidents on the road.
The accidents occurred when a Toyota Corolla car bearing the GE 1640-15 registration number skidded off the road. He spilled fuel on portions of the highway, making it difficult for some drivers to drive.
Five of the wounded were pbadengers, while the other wounded was a pbader-by.
The wounded were transported to Tema General Hospital for treatment.
Ernest Nuuf Awimini, head of the Emergency and Accident Unit at the Tema General Hospital, confirmed that the five people were responding to the treatment.
According to him, four of them would be immediately released, while one would continue to be admitted for further treatment.
A witness told DAILY GUIDE that "cars are constantly slipping on the road because of the lack of friction between the tires and the road, which makes drivers lose control".
Timothy Affum, Tema Regional Deputy Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), explained how the accident had occurred. He was informed that around 7:50, his outfit had been informed of an accident on a highway.
"When we arrived at this location, the accident involved a Toyota Corolla with GE 1640-15 registration number that had skidded off the road and spilled fuel on portions of the highway near Kasapreko. Four victims on board the vehicle had already been sent to Tema General Hospital when we arrived, "he said.
He added: "Because of the spill on the road, the surface has become slippery and a second vehicle – a Nissan Navarra pickup bearing the registration number GN 9099-16 – has also slipped, injuring the driver. . . "
