War prisoner! Entertainment and Legion M are hosting a big event to pay homage to Marvel Comics icon Stan Lee in Los Angeles on Jan. 30. The official program of this event says more about the list of invited celebrities.
As Deadline reports:
"The announced participants are Mark Hamill (Star Wars), RZA (rapper / producer, Wu Tang Clan), Jeph Loeb (Executive Vice President of Marvel, head of television), Rob Liefeld (Co-creator of Deadpool), Tom DeSanto (Executive Producer, X-Men), Joe Quesada (Creative Director, Marvel Comics), Bill Sienkiewicz (Artist, Elektra: Assbadin), Marv Wolfman (Blade Creator), Clark Gregg (Featured, Agents of SHIELD), Felicia Day (creator / host of The Guild), Michael Uslan (executive producer, The Dark Knight), Bill Duke (actor, Predator), Gill Champion (POW! Entertainment), as well as members of the cast of three television series based on characters from Marvel Comics: FX's Legion, The Gifted, Fox, and The Runaways, from Hulu. "
If you're a longtime fan of Marvel, this list is certainly rich in iconic Marvel Comics names and iconic Marvel Movies faces. Then there are some random names on it (like RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan) that are sure to keep this event interesting.
"Excelsior! A Celebration of the Incredible, Fantastic, Amazing and Mysterious Life of Stan Lee" will be held at the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles. The event is moderated by Kevin Smith, who "will be hosting live conversations with entertainment industry personalities, pop culture celebrities and comic strip personalities." Moderate on-stage conversations with industry personalities entertainment, celebrities of pop culture and personalities from the world of comics. "
Additional notes on the program include a tribute by the creators of Spider-Man: in the Spider-Verse (Chris Miller, Phil Lord, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad) who has just received an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Film. Directors of the X-Men film franchise (Lauren Shuler-Donner and Derek Hoffman) will receive a similar tribute.
The atmosphere will be built around the music and poetry that Lee loved; include celebrity video tributes; an exhibition of Lee's works in the form of photos, art, memorabilia and clbadic comics; even the kitchen provided by White Castle in the honor of Lee's favorite food: sliders. If that were not enough, there will also be a musical event in the form of a "troop of policemen composed of bagpipes and drums", culminating in a "cosplay bademblage" that will honor the wide range of characters that Lee created during his career.
It's about as "Stan Lee" as an event can have. In fact, this is exactly the kind of excessive tribute that Lee would like himself.
