LONDON, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) – The English Premier League team, Manchester United, has lost its crown as the world's highest-performing football team, revealed figures Thursday.
The figures come from the 22nd edition of the Sports Money Group Football Money League of the world accounting firm Deloitte, showing that Manchester United slipped to third place. Real Madrid regained first place, followed by Barcelona by the Spanish rival. Last place was at the top of the list in the 2014/15 season.
Real Madrid is the first club to generate a turnover of more than 750 million euros (851 million US dollars).
Barcelona 's turnover reached 690.4 million euros (782 million US dollars), while Manchester United generated 666 million euros (755 million US dollars). This means that the three richest clubs in this year's Football Money League generated collective revenue of 2.1 billion euros (2.38 billion US dollars). That's more than double the total business figure achieved by the top three clubs 10 years ago.
Deloitte study shows top 20 highest paid football clubs in the world generated record cumulative revenue of € 8.3 billion (US $ 9.42 billion) in 2017 / 18, an increase of 6% over the previous year.
Out of the combined revenue of the top 20 Money League clubs, circulation revenue remains the largest single stream of revenue, accounting for 43% of total revenue.
Deloitte pointed out that the trend of commercial revenue of the Money League clubs, which now account for 40% of total revenue, is a noticeable trend in this year's edition. The income generated during matches remains unchanged at 17%.
Bayern Munich ranks fourth among the top 10, followed by Manchester City, Paris Saint Germain, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and 10th place, Tottenham Hotspur.
