The National Insurance Commission (NIC) has debunked messages circulating on social media suggesting that some insurance companies are in financial trouble. The NIC has warned that spreading such misinformation about part of the financial sector could pose serious problems for industry players.
The press release, copied to Citi Business News and signed by the Commissioner of Insurance, Judge Ofori urged the public to ignore comments that constitute vicious attempts by anonymous individuals to tarnish the reputation of said companies.

PRESS RELEASE
MIS-INFORMATION ON CERTAIN INSURANCE COMPANIES
The attention of the National Insurance Commission has been drawn to the messages circumnavigating social media according to which some insurance companies are in financial trouble.
The Commission wants to use your media to inform the public not to take into account these malicious comments, which are vicious attempts by anonymous people to tarnish the reputation of these insurance companies.
The Commission would also like to advise the persons involved in these acts to refrain from and refrain from such acts, as legal proceedings will be brought against them, if necessary.
The public should note that the Commission has an office that investigates and resolves complaints from people who feel they have been treated unfairly by an insurance company. The public is advised to use this support to settle any dispute that it might have with an insurance company.
For the avoidance of doubt, the public is advised to refer to the attached list of companies comprising insurance companies and intermediate insurance companies in good standing.
