Former President JJ Rawlings
Former President JJ Rawlings on Wednesday denied any information that he would separate from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to form a new political party.
The media reported that the former military leader was organizing the formation of a new party with some leading members of the Umbrella family.
The founder of the largest opposition party urged the "general public to treat the report with the utmost contempt and contempt".
"The carefully prepared falsity is unfortunately the creation of a small element within the NDC, eager to manipulate the spirit of the party's faithful," said a statement from his office.
He added, "This is not the first time that they are trying this kind of political deception and lying. In the run-up to the 2016 elections, the same sneaky elements planted such products in the media. Unfortunately, they did not learn from the party's humiliating loss and refined their arsenal for even more fairy tales.
"We urge media and social media to confirm this information with this office prior to publication."
Rawlings' wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, separated from the NDC in October 2012 to found the National Democratic Party.
Another NDC leader, Dr. Benjamin Kunbuor, whose name was also quoted in the report, also began the story.
"I am very busy with important projects for the future of this country which, in my opinion, can contribute to improving the human condition of our people. I believe this country has a future and we should all use our energies to achieve it. If such a publication is intended to be used as a political sport or as entertainment, I am sorry not to be available for such a game, because I do not play games of others, "said L & R. Former Minister of National Defense in a statement.
The NDC will travel to the congress in late February to elect a flag bearer for the 2020 elections.
