Parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency of Ayawaso West Wuogon, Delali Kwasi Brempong, does not believe that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate in the next by-election poses a threat to her chances to claim the seat.

Bruppong told Eyewitness News on Wednesday that despite the NPP's dominance in the last elections in the constituency, Lydia Alhbadan, wife of the late MP Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko, had no chance against him.

Umaru Sanda Amadu, the host of the show, asked him if he considered her a formidable opponent. Mr. Brempong replied: "Not at all".

"She is a brand new candidate with her own characteristics. There is nothing to compare it to someone who has already collected more than 20,000 votes. "

He also contested the results of the 2016 legislative elections and called it "false positive", saying the race was tighter than the final results.

Delali Brempong submitted her nomination form in order to participate in the elections earlier in January and has since received the green light from the Electoral Commission.

Lydia Seyram Alhbadan also applied to the NPP after winning the party's primary school, winning 441 votes out of a total of 672 votes cast.

The seat became vacant following the death of Emmanuel Agyarko in November.

William Dowokpor of the Progressive People's Party (PPP) and Clement Boadi of the Liberal Party of Ghana also participate in the race.

The election is expected to take place Jan. 31, although a lawsuit comes to challenge the schedule.
