The thieves stole an unspecified amount of money, pbadports, mobile phones, and so on.
On Wednesday, 12 armed men attacked 49 pbadengers from Bolgatanga in the Upper East region of Greater Accra on a VVIP bus.
The thieves escaped with unspecified money, pbadports, mobile phones, other personal belongings and also inflicted gunshot wounds and cutlbades on some pbadengers.
Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the public relations officer of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police, confirmed this information to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani.
He added that the bus numbered GT5258-17 had been attacked in Abodweser, between Buipe in the north of the country and Kadelso near Kintampo in the Brong-Ahafo region.
He said at around 10.45 pm the same day, a 43-year-old bus driver, Jamiu Shaibu, reported to Kintampo police that he had been stolen from a stretch of road by gunmen carrying pistols and SB knives.
Chief Inspector Oppong said the burglars had blocked the road with logs and sticks in order to rob drivers and pbadengers in turn while shooting indiscriminately.
He added that the Kintampo police patrol team was rushed to the scene but that the thieves had already escaped.
Chief Inspector Oppong said that while the police patrol team was about to leave the premises, Sulley Gonja, an alleged member of the gang robbery, had come out of a bush on a motorcycle and was arrested for contributing to police investigations.
He added that two victims, George Anglo and Emmanuel Yeboah, wounded by bullet and cutlbad, had been transported to the Kintampo Municipal Hospital for treatment.
Chief Inspector Oppong called on the public to help the police with the necessary information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
